    Feature

Artemisinin is extracted from the leaves of Artemisia annua and is a sesquiterpene lactone compound containing a peroxide bridge structure. It is a natural compound with antimalarial properties, with the advantages of rapid onset and low toxicity.
Currently, the industrial methods for obtaining artemisinin are mainly extraction, separation, and purification.
Artemisinin powder is almost insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.

What is artemisinin mainly used for?

    1. The most famous pharmacological effect of artemisinin and its derivatives is anti-malarial. WHO recommends the use of artemisinin drugs such as artesunate and artemether to treat malaria. The metabolite of artemisinin and its two derivatives is dihydroartemisinin, which is also an effective antimalarial drug ingredient.
    2. In addition, it also has anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and anti-fibrosis effects.
    3. Artemisinin improves polycystic ovary syndrome by mediating LONP1-CYP11A1 interaction.
