Citric Acid Monohydrate

  • BP, USP, FCC, E330 standard
  • Certification: ISO, CE, SGS
  • Specification: 99%
  • CAS No.: 5949-29-1
  • Molecular Formula: C6H8O7·H2O

    Features

Citric acid monohydrate is a colorless, translucent crystal or white powder, which is easily soluble in water and ethanol. It is odorless and tastes sour.

Citric acid is naturally present in many fruits, especially citrus fruits, which contain more citric acid.

It usually exists in the form of anhydrate or monohydrate. When citric acid crystallizes in hot water, it forms anhydrate, that is, anhydrous citric acid, and when it crystallizes in cold water, it forms citric acid monohydrate.

Usually, citric acid monohydrate is suitable for food additives, while anhydrous citric acid is more used in industrial chemicals.

    Function

    1. Citric Acid Monohydrate can be used as a pH regulator, which can effectively adjust the pH of food and extend the shelf life.
Adding it to canned fruit can reduce the pH value of food, inhibit the growth of microorganisms, prevent food from spoiling, and extend the shelf life.
It can also be added to canned vegetables. Some vegetables have an alkaline reaction. Using citric acid as a pH regulator can not only play a seasoning role, but also keep the product fresh.
    2. It has a strong sour taste and is often used to adjust the taste and acidity of food.
As an acidulant. Using citric acid in gel foods such as jams and jellies can effectively reduce the negative charge of pectin.
    3. Antioxidant properties. The chelation effect and pH adjustment properties of citric acid enable it to increase the performance of antioxidants, inhibit enzyme activity, and extend the shelf life in the processing of quick-frozen foods.

    Application

    • Used as an acidity regulator, preservative, and freshness-preserving agent in the food and beverage industry.
Commonly used in carbonated beverages, fruit juices, lactic acid beverages, and pickled products.
    • Used as an antioxidant and detergent in cosmetics and washing products.
    • Used as a plasticizer in the chemical industry. Widely used in the textile, leather, and plastic industries.
